Instagram is great and all, but the content we're seeing on the platform is starting to feel stale. We moved from glossy airbrushed photos of our lives, to #radical#authenticity, which is great, but there's a lack of fresh and exciting content to keep us entertained. Enter TikTok.
Believe it or not, TikTok is not just for bored 13 year olds who want to impress their middle school crush.
Yup, the app everyone's talking about actually holds great potential for your business.
On April 27, BURO155 hosted TikTok for Business: Unlocked in collaboration with Vix Meldrew, founder of Grow and Glow (and TikTok obsessive, naturally). During the workshop, Vix shared some of her top reasons for why brands should be active on TikTok.
1. Offer your audience something new
TikTok is so loved because it's a fun platform. The concept is very fresh, meaning it holds people's attention - so it's a great way to showcase your brand. TikTok gives you the chance to show your audience something new, like behind the scenes content that gives them an inside glance into what you do all day.
2. It's insanely fast growing
The app has over 800 million users worldwide, and that number's growing every day. Why? Well, it's simple, says Vix. "Everyone already has Facebook and Instagram, so there's no one left to join." TikTok, on the other hand, is still expanding, so it's a great chance to jump on board.
3. You can reach your future audience
It's got a reputation for a young following for a reason: 41% of TikTok users are between the ages of 16 and 24. And while this might not be your target audience right now, in a couple of years, they might be. So get in now while you can, and get your future audience familiar with your brand. You'll thank yourself later.
4. You can build a following easily
Okay, maybe easily is the wrong word. But since TikTok is so relatively new, it's still possible to gain an impressive following in a way that has become almost impossible on its competitor apps. There are plenty of stories of people becoming pretty much overnight TikTok stars, in the same way that early YouTubers are now legit celebrities in their own right.
5. You can funnel traffic elsewhere
TikTok is not yet shoppable, Vix points out. But you still have a bio much like on Instagram or Twitter, and you can use your link in bio to send people to your website. Add in the fact that it's pretty easy to get people to watch your TikTok videos, and you might suddenly see a spike in traffic to your website. Line up your lead magnets and tripwires, and you'll be converting views into sales soon enough. 👋🏼👋🏼
